MC Sopore officials allege attack by sweepers

Sopore: A group of sweepers allegedly roughed up three employees including a Sanitary Inspector of Sopore Municipal Council Monday morning.

According to reports, a group of Safai Karamcharis attacked one Sanitary Inspector and drivers of the Municipal Council Sopore outside their office after some verbal brawl and left them injured.

Later, the employees of department protested against this incident and demanded strict action against accused persons.

Speaking to Kashmir Images Sanitary Inspector Riyaz Ahmad Qadri said, “I and our two drivers were attacked by sweepers as they want employees should support their strike call, but we refused and they started beating me and two drivers.”

He said, “We later along with other employees went to office of the Director Urban Local Bodies Srinagar to submit report of the incident”.

On the other side, sweeper’s union leader Mohammad Sultan Sheikh told Kashmir Images that the said Sanitary Inspector beat one of their colleagues and that they have lodged a case at Police Station Sopore.

Speaking to Kashmir Images Director Urban Local Bodies Kashmir Farooq Ahmad Rather said, “A group employees from MC Sopore visited my office and submitted the report regarding the incident and I told them that department will investigate and anyone found guilty will be punished.”
