Srinagar, May 13: Slamming police for using indiscriminate force on people protesting against the horrific rape of a three-year-old girl, Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Gani Lone on Monday appealed to the Governor to ensure exemplary punishment for the perpetrator.

In a statement, Lone appealed Governor to ensure justice to the victim and act against the police personnel responsible for using force against protesters.

“I appeal to the Governor to personally monitor what has happened and what is happening. This crime is a crime against a daughter and she is our daughter and we are all duty-bound to stand up against this crime and ensure that exemplary punishment meted out to the shameless perpetrator is an all-time deterrent for such morally deviant sociopaths. I also appeal to the protestors to have faith in the judicial system to punish this sociopath,” he said.

Condemning the use of force against protesters, Lone said the administration has utterly failed to understand the gravity of the situation.

He said the “justified anger” is driving the protests across Kashmir Valley.

“It is a heinous crime and protests are in essence a wake-up call against the depraved and sick psyche that seems to have crept into our social foundations,” he said.

While criticizing the police action against the protestors, Lone said that there is a growing trend of mob mentality setting in our police forces.

“We have received some disturbing videos of police in action. The policemen are seen mouthing unutterable pejoratives and seem to be driven by motives other than crowd control. While the shameful incident makes our heads hang in shame as a society, equally disturbing is the mob mentality that seems to have dawned on to our police force,” he added.
