Geelani concerned over ‘plight of prisoners’

Srinagar, May 11, 2019: Expressing his grave concern over the plight of political prisoners in and outside Jammu and Kashmir, All Parties Hurriyat Conference chairman, Syed Ali Geelani said that while the universal declaration of human rights provides a clear guideline for the erstwhile governments of its state members, the same rights is denied to the political prisoners of Kashmir.

Terming the government’s attitude as a mere political vendetta, Hurriyat chairman said that Kashmir is a pure political issue which can be settled according to the aspirations of the people.

Expressing his solidarity with all detenues languishing in jails in and outside Kashmir, Hurriyat leader condemned the behaviour of the jail authorities.

Hurriyat chairman appealed the United Nations Human Rights Commission, International Red Cross, Amnesty International to visit the Indian jails and have on the spot observations of the prisoner’s plight.
