Srinagar May 6: Former MLA Langate and AIP President, Er Abdul Rasheed today lead a protest outside Civil Secretariat here against the state government for allegedly failing to provide basic amenities to the people.

Rasheed along with dozens of his supporters amid sloganeering took out a protest march from Magarmal Bagh to Civil Secretariat this afternoon against the state government for allegedly denying basic living facilities to the people.

As the protesters were about to reach the venue, a pose of police deployed in advance intercepted AIP Chief and his supporters forcing them to cut short his proposed march.

Talking to media before being stopped, Rasheed while condemning fresh arrest spree in the valley sought unconditional release of what he termed all political prisoners including JKLF Chairman Yasin Malik, Nayeem Khan, Shabir Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Altaf Ahmad Shah (Fantoosh), Asiya Indrabi, Zahoor Watali, Fayaz Hamid, Mushtaq Veeri, Qasim Faktoo, Masrat Alam, Sarjan Barkati and others.

He termed the prisoners lodged in various jails in and outside state as political prisoners and asked the government to ensure their release as early as possible.

Demanding immediate arrest of those involved in Rizwan Pandit’s “brutal murder” Rasheed said neither national media nor human rights organizations show any interest to expose white collar killers running scot free and pretending to be the priests.

He also sought end to century’s old practice of Darbar move saying if states like UP, Bihar and Bengal can have one capital, what is the fun of spending huge money every year on Darbar move, wasting precious time of masses and bringing even the nominal governance to halt.
