Srinagar, May 02: All Parties Hurriyat Conference has expressed its deep concern over the ‘deteriorating’ political scenario in Jammu and Kashmir and stated that the state was pursuing the worst policy of ‘suppression and repression’ against people especially the younger generation.

In a press release issued here Hurriyat Conference alleged the state government of brazen denial of political space, democracy, human rights guaranteed by the United Nations Organization and added that people of Jammu and Kashmir who were demanding ‘right to self determination’ were facing worst curbs on their ‘freedom of expression, right to get education, right to live at liberty and adopt any religion and right to travel’.

Hurriyat also criticized the arrest spree in Pulwama, Shopian and other parts of the valley and added that in view of the LS elections, nocturnal raids as well as search operations had been intensified creating a ‘war-like’ atmosphere in the valley. Incarceration of the leaders and activists of Hurriyat Conference in addition to the young students was the new face of ‘state terrorism’, adopted to punish the people of Kashmir for their ‘legitimate demand of right to self-determination’, the press release added. Hurriyat Conference also expresses its grave concern over the worsening health conditions of all the prisoners languishing in and outside state jails. “Denial of basic amenities as per jail manual to the prisoners and inhuman attitude of the jail authorities with them is a grave violation of prisoners rights,” the press release added.

Hurriyat Conference also urged all the human rights organizations to take serious cognizance the plight of prisoners of Jammu and Kashmir.
