Srinagar, May 01: A police Head Constable visiting home on leave was shot at by suspected militants in Srinagar Wednesday, officials said.

Illiyas Ahmed was attached with the special branch of the district police in Handwara in north Kashmir.

Suspected militants barged into his house in Kaw Mohalla Khanyar and shot at him leaving him wounded, the officials said. Reports reaching here said that he was rushed to SKIMS where he is undergoing treatment.

However, Press Trust of India (PTI), in an earlier report, had claimed that the cop had succumbed to his injuries. The report was later refuted by police confirming that the cop was under treatment at SKIMS.
