Baramulla: Several apple orchards were damaged due to land sliding in several villages of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

An orchardist Ghulam Nabi Najar of Rangwar told Kashmir Images that dozens of his apple producing trees got uprooted after land eroded as PMGSY left the work half way following the earth cutting and didn’t raise the requisite protection bunds.

“This orchard is our only source of income and the land sliding has damaged scores of apple trees. See the condition of my apple orchard which is only source of income of my poor family. It got damaged due to negligence of PMGSY and the callousness of the contractor,” he added.

In the August 2018, Kashmir Images reported about irregularities alleged in construction of retaining walls on PMGSY road Kholana to Rangwar Sultanpora and an inquiry was ordered but nothing was done to do justice to the affected inhabitants.

Executive Engineer, when contacted, told Kashmir Images that work will be resumed after weather improves. But he failed to give satisfactory reply as why the work was abruptly stopped following allegations of irregularities and probe.
