Srinagar:  Former Chief Minister and President Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti paid glowing tributes to Shaeri Kashmir Pirzada Ghulam Ahmad Mehjoor on his 67th death anniversary.

Mehbooba said that the poetry of Mehjoor is filled with patriotic fervour and revolutionary zeal and his strong belief in unity, religious harmony and fellow feeling made his message more appealing.

She said that Mehjoor’s works like Poshe-mati – Janano, Bage Nishat Ke Gulo and his patriotic verses like “Kashmir will awaken the East; Let me put this prophecy in the ears of Kashmiris” aroused the poor and downtrodden out of their centuries old slumber and inspired them to fight for their rights.

Mehbooba further said that Mehjoor played a remarkable role in enhancing and enriching the  literary heritage and language of Kashmir. She underscored the need of making Mehjoor’s literature available to Kashmir’s younger generation so that it would come to know more about the message given by this legendary poet through his works.
