DLSA Kargil organizes environment awareness camp cum plantation drive

KARGIL, APRIL 03: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Kargil in collaboration with Forest Division Kargil organized an awareness camp cum plantation drive here at Government Boys Higher Secondary School Baroo, here on Tuesday.

The event was organized under the supervision of the Chief Judicial Magistrate and Chairman Tehsil Legal Services Committee Kargil Mansoor Ahmad Lone.

Munsif/JMIC and Chairman Tehsil Legal Services Committee Sankoo Muneer Ahmad Mir who is also the Acting Secretary of DLSA Kargil, Public Prosecutor Kargil Kacho Manzoor Ali Khan, Divisional Forest Officer Kargil Muhammad Ali, Principal Boys Higher Secondary School Kargil Najma Banoo and Tehsildar Kargil Muhammad Salim Wazir were also present on the occasion.

After inaugurating the plantation drive, the Chief Judicial Magistrate   highlighted the importance of planting trees particularly in desert like areas as in Kargil. He also spoke about the importance of flora and fauna in a given area and impressed upon the role of children in afforestation.

Acting Secretary DLSA Kargil, Munsif/JMIC and Chairman Tehsil Legal Services Committee Sankoo also spoke on the occasion.   He underlined the importance of conservation of forests and trees in general. He also expressed his concern about the ongoing destruction of the fragile ecosystem caused by continuous deforestation, its effect on the ozone layer, importance of forests in retaining the water table, soil conservation, relation of flora and fauna and most importantly desertification of various green areas of India due to continuous deforestation.

Meanwhile, Divisional Forest Officer Muhammad Ali spoke in detail about the flora, fauna and different medicinal plants found in district Kargil and their value to the mankind.

Public Prosecutor Kacho Manzoor Ali Khan highlighted the importance of trees in maintaining balance of the ecosystem.

Earlier, the Principal Boys Higher Secondary School in her welcome address spoke about the theme of the event.

The teachers and the students of the school participated in the plantation drive with full zeal and enthusiasm.
