Srinagar, Mar 27: Two youth were wounded on Wednesday when government forces allegedly opened fire on the protesting locals in a village in south Kashmir’s district Kulgam.

Reports said that government forces launched a cordon and search operation in Kuger area of the district. However, the locals tried to disrupt the searches by pelting them with stones.

Locals alleged that the forces opened fire on the protesters, resulting in injuries to two youth.

The injured were identified as Suhail Nazir Bhat, son of Nazir Ahmed, and Faizan Ahmad, son of Yaqoob Ahmed.

A local news gathering agency GNS said that Faizan has received bullet injury in his right shoulder while Suhail had a bullet wound in the left thigh.

The injured youth have been referred to Bone and Joints Hospital in Barzulla, Srinagar for specialized treatment.

GNS report quoted SSP Kulgam, Gurinderpal Singh, as saying that petrol bomb was hurled on the joint team of army and police and it hit a cowshed which caught fire.

“We have reports about pellet and not bullet injuries to two youth,” the SSP said.
