Land sinking triggered by rains in Sherpora Kandi Baramulla

Baramulla: At least eighteen families of Sherpora villages were affected after their residential houses developed fissures and cracks due to land sinking triggered by incessant rains on Wednesday.

According to a local Javid Iqbal at least eighteen residential houses were damaged due to land sinking  triggered by incessant rains at Sherpora village of Kandi belt in Wagoora Tehsil in which six houses suffered severe damage while as twelve houses developed cracks and fissures as five to six inch sinking of land has taken place.

The affected families have approached the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla GN Itoo for taking immediate steps for providing temporary residential arrangements.

“The Deputy Commissioner Baramulla has issued immediate directions to the concerned Tehsildar Wagoora to visit the affected families and to assess damage and evacuate people to safer places,” official sources said.

Talking to Kashmir Images Tehsildar Wagoora, Syed Shabdar Sarwar said, “At least 20 houses suffered damage and around six houses have suffered severe damage while as rest have developed cracks and fissures.”

“We have made temporary arrangements for affected families in Government High School Sherpora and there is no threat to life as of now,” he added.

He added that families have to take precautions and rain water passages should not be blocked to avoid further sinking.
