Infant dies in house fire in Baramulla

Baramulla, Mar 17: An 11-month-old baby died after his home caught fire in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, police said on Sunday.

The house belonging to Iqbal Ahmad Mirza in Paranpilla Uri caught fire due to unknown reasons, a police spokesperson said.

Umeed Ahmad, son of son of Mohammad Maqsood, died in the incident, he added.

The cause of the blaze is being ascertained, he said further.

Meanwhile, the witnesses said that following a road accident in Paranpilla in which a person died while his son and daughter were critically injured, Mirza family rushed to the accident site to help the injured, leaving behind the toddler at home.

When the family came back, they saw their house ablaze, and later retrieved the toddler Umeed’s charred body from it.

After medico-legal formalities, the body of the child was handed over to his family for the last rites, police said.
