Srinagar, March 16:  Markaz-i- Noor, Centre for Shaikh-ul Aalam Studies (CSAS), University of Kashmir organised an extension lecture on ‘Shaikh-ul Aalam: Wahdatuk Alambardar’ which was delivered by prominent historian and researcher M. Y. Taing.

While highlighting the fame and popularity of the revered saint) Taing called Shaikh-ul Aalam (RA) as the most towering personality Kashmir has ever produced who influenced every sphere of Kashmiri society.

Quoting from the historical accounts Prof Taing said that people of all sections of society have a great respect for this revered saint and even the rulers paid homage at the shrine of Alamdar-i Kashmir from time to time.

“We find the original form of Kashmiri Language in the poetry of Shaikh-ul Aalam (RA),” said Taing.

He stressed upon the need of propagating and disseminating the message of Shaikh-ul -Aalam (RA) throughout the world by way of translating his works into other languages.

The extension lecture was presided over by Prof. Majrooh Rashid, Head Department of Kashmiri, noted fiction writer and Journalist Mushtaq Ahmad Mushtaq and Majeed Masroor shared the presidium.

In his presidential address Prof. Majrooh Rashid laid stress on the point that it is good to have reverence and respect for such saints “but at the same time it is much more important that we should act on the messages of such saints and great personalities.”

In her welcome address Dr. Mehfooza Jan, Chairperson Markaz-i Noor, Centre for Shaikh-ul Aalam Studies reiterated the commitment of the Centre to disseminate the message of great sufi saint Hazarat Shaikh-ul Aalam(RA)..

The lecture was attended by a galaxy of intellectuals, academicians, and faculty members of varsity. The proceeding of the event was conducted by Dr. Aadil Mohi-ud Din.
