Raja Aijaz also expressed sorrow over the incident and supported the demand for tunnel to Karnah. “I am extremely pained to hear about the unfortunate loss of precious lives. I urge the administration to airlift the bodies to the native village of the deceased in Tangdhar and extend all possible help and announce ex gratia relief to the families of the deceased”, he said.

Pressing on the demand for tunnel to Karnah, Raja Aijaz said that “The road from Kupwara to Karnah, especially Sandhna Top, is prone to avalanches. Every year precious lives are lost due to mishaps on this stretch. The residents of Karnah face immense difficulties & shortage of essentials in winters as roads get blocked. Construction of a tunnel to Karnah will mitigate the hardships of people to a large extent and make travel accessible without people having to go through the risk of taking this route.”

Raja Aijaz also appealed to the residents of Karnah to follow district administration directives on traffic movement to avoid any future mishaps.
