PDP workers stage protest, demand revocation of ban on JeI

Srinagar, March 2: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Saturday hit streets to protest what was termed centers “unjustified” ban on Jammat-e-Islami (JeI) in Jammu and Kashmir.

Shouting slogans “stop targeting Jammat, revoke ban”, dozens of PDP workers this morning took out a protest rally from party headquarters at Residency Road here demanding revocation of ban on Jammat.

The protesters said the BJP in order to appease its vote bank took the extreme step of banning socio-religious organization in the state.

Demanding the centre to immediately rollback its order of banning Jammat, the protesting PDP activists said since elections are near, BJP work hard to woo voters at the cost of Kashmir.

“This ban should immediately be revoked. We know BJP’s sinister plans behind this move. BJP tries to win elections at the cost of Kashmiris. But it should bear in mind that its plans have been badly exposed,” said Khursheed Alam, PDPD MLC for Khanyar constituency

He said the crackdown on Jammat and confiscating property owned by the organization and that of its activist is slam on Democracy which speaks a lot about Sangh Parivar’s plans.

The slogan shouting PDP workers when tried to move towards Lal Chowk to register their protest, posses of police deployed in advance prevented them to continue further.
