State-wide Special Voters Enrolment Camps on Feb 23-24

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 22 – In order to facilitate the new eligible voters for enrolment in the electoral roll, the State Election Department shall organize 2-day special camps at all the polling stations across the State on 23-24 February, 2019 from 10 am to 4 pm. The camps shall be held under the overall supervision of concerned District Election Officers (Deputy Commissioners) and all the BLOs shall remain present at the polling stations to help the people to register them as voters.

This was disclosed by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), J&K, Shailendra Kumar at a meeting of officers held here today. He said the process of enrolment of new voters is an on-going exercise and people can avail the medium of on-line facility on Election Commission’s portals www.nvsp.in. or by contacting the concerned BLO who has a permanent assignment to do this job. It has no last or cut-off date and can be done any day. People can also enquire about the process of deletion, addition of particulars, and change of polling station or any query with regard to election process on Election Commission’s dedicated helpline 1950 which is functional in all the districts of the State. He has appealed the new eligible voters to avail the benefit of the special camps and enroll themselves as voters.

In order to ensure maximum participation of voters in the ensuing elections in the State, the CEO has called for intensification of awareness campaign for the general masses through different mediums like print, electronic, social media, mobile vans, seminars, nukkadnataks, skits, posters, public hoardings and other such means. He has urged the Director Information to mobilize the resources to step up the awareness campaign in every nook and corner for the knowledge of masses, especially the youth. He has asked for active involvement of educational institutions, social organizations, Government departments and other stakeholders to educate the masses about the importance of election to ensure maximum participation of people in the electoral process which is must for strengthening the democracy.

Director Information, Gulzar Ahmed Dar, Deputy Director Information, Rakesh Dubey and Deputy CEO, Anil Salgotra were present in the meeting.
