Kargil back to normal after week-long shutdown, protests

Srinagar, Feb 16: Normalcy returned to Kargil district Saturday following the announcement by the Governor that newly carved out Ladakh division will have rotational headquarters between Leh and Kargil.

The Ladakh region’s Kargil district was observing shutdown and protests for a week demanding headquarters of the newly created administrative division of Ladakh be made rotational between Leh and Kargil towns.

Reports said all the government offices, including LAHDC Secretariat, DC Office and the district court resumed normal work today while as business establishments all over the mountainous district opened and traffic was seen plying in the district.

The joint coordination committee Kargil had asked people to end agitation and resume their normal routine.

The Governor’s administration had Friday announced that the newly carved out Ladakh division will have headquarters both at Leh and Kargil.
