National Sericulture Awardees meet Skandan

JAMMU, FEBRUARY, 14: The three Silkworm Rearers of the State who were recently conferred with National Sericulture awards by Union Ministry of Textiles today met Advisor to Governor, K Skandan here.

The awardees Rattan Lal from Thandapani, Rajouri, Raj Mohammad Gejee from Kalayaban, Uri and Smt. Rasheeda Banoo from Brariangan, Anantnag were felicitated by the Advisor in presence of Director Sericulture, Gulzar Ahmad and senior officers of Sericulture Development Department. Each awardee was presented a cash award and a shawl as felicitate by the Advisor.

Speaking on the occasion, Skandan said that the awardees have brought laurels to the State by recognition of their outstanding contribution in Sericulture Sector at National Level. He said that they shall be source of inspiration for motivating their fellow citizens to venture into the silkworm rearing.

He asked them to be ambassadors of Sericulture sector in the state for creating more awareness and persuasion among the people for boosting this age old profession. He further said that every support will be provided to the people who want to adopt silkworm rearing, reeling & weaving in the state and resources shall be explored fully for the purpose.

The Advisor sought feedback from awardees about the various Sericulture activities being undertaken through the available resources with them. The awardees gave their feedback on various issues and sought support during distress sales and crop damages. He asked the Department to explore the possibilities of covering the sericulture under insurance Scheme and come up with detailed presentations on various activities being undertaken by the Department.
