Bhagat reviews preparedness for rollout of PM-SYM pension scheme

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 12: Commissioner Secretary Labour and Employment Department, Saurabh Bhagat, today chaired a meeting to review the preparedness for the launch of Pradhan Mantri Shram-Yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM) pension scheme in the State.

The meeting was attended by Yash Paul Suman, Director Employment, Bashir Ahmad Khan, Labour Commissioner, Anu Bhel, Joint Director Employment, Jammu, Shahid Mehmood, Deputy Director Employment, Central/In-charge Joint Director Employment, Kashmir, Sunil Gupta, President J&K Bank, Kapoor Singh, Senior Divisional Manager LIC and other heads of the implementing agencies.

The Commissioner Secretary asked the implementing agencies   to ensure that all preparations are put in place for the timely launch of the innovative initiative. In this regard, he constituted a Committee which would include members from the department and the implementing agencies as well.

The pension scheme is targeted to provide unorganised sector workers a monthly income of up to Rs 15,000. All the unorganized workers up to 18 to 40 years of age can subscribe to the PM-SYM scheme, which entails a minimum monthly pension of Rs 3,000 on attaining the age of 60 years on a monthly contribution of a small amount during their working life.

Unorganized workers who are working or engaged as home-based workers, street vendors, mid-day meal workers, head loaders, brick kiln workers, cobblers, ragpickers, domestic workers, washermen, rickshaw pullers, landless labourers, agricultural workers, construction workers, beedi workers, handloom workers, leather workers, audio-visual workers and similar other occupations would be eligible to avail the benefit of the scheme, the meeting was told.

The scheme is set to be rolled out in the state on 15th of February 2019.

Later, Commissioner Secretary chaired another meeting to review the functioning of the Labour Department.

Labour Commissioner, Bashir Ahmad Khan, apprised the meeting that the Department is endeavouring to ensure enforcement of various Labour laws to regulate the working conditions of workers.

The Commissioner Secretary directed the concerned officers to gear up so that set targets can be achieved within the stipulated time frame. He also directed the concerned officers to accelerate the disposal of cases under various Acts to ensure benefits of welfare measures reach to the workers.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Labour Commissioner, Jammu, Shahnaz Akhtar, Assistant Labour Commissioners of the various districts, and other senior officers of the department.
