Scores of Boniyar villages reel under darkness

Baramulla: Scores of villages of Boniyar Tehsil in frontier Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district are reeling under darkness as 6.3 MVA transformer of grid station Peerinaya Boniyar developed some technical snag.

Residents of the affected villages alleged that PDD authorities have failed to restore power supply to more than half a dozen villages after 6.3 MVA  electric transformer of Peerinaya Boniyar  grid station developed some snag. Besides electric blockade, the water supply too has got disrupted.

“In this harsh winter and biting cold, we are facing grave hardships in the absence of electricity. Scores of the villages reel under darkness besides lift water supply schemes in the area is badly affected,” said Mushtaq Ahmed local resident of Gantamulla village.

The villagers alleged that it has been a week since the transformer developed snag and so far nothing has been done by the PDD.

The villagers threatened to take to streets if department failed to restore power supply in the area within two days.

When contacted Executive Engineer PDD Nazir Ahmad Malik told Kashmir Images: “We are on restoration process and hopefully all villages will get power from adjoining grid stations. Hope Gantamulla and Kitchama will be resorted tonight and rest will be resorted tomorrow.”
