Shopian, Feb 04: Residents of Imam Sahab in Shopian district on Monday demanded the relocation of Degree College which they said has been already promised to them by the administration.

According to the residents, a memorandum was passed at circuit house Shopian in presence of district administration in which it was promised that a Degree college will be provided to Imam Sahab but later on government sanctioned it to Zainapora town of Shopian district.

“Soon after passing the memorandum, the district administration asked us to make land available for the College and after doing so the government took a u-turn,” they added.

The residents further said at least 2500 students remain enrolled in the Higher Secondary School Imam Sahab and there could be no best reason for the administration to establish a Degree College in their area.  “In absence of a Degree college, the students who pass out from the Higher Secondary Imam Sahab are supposed to travel a long distance for pursuing their further studies.”

When contacted Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian said: “The decision of establishing the Degree College at Reshipora Zainapora has been made by the government. The location where the College will be established is not far away from Imam Sahab zone.”

Meanwhile, the DC said that he has no knowledge about the promises made to the people of Imam Sahab.
