Srinagar, Jan 27:  Principal of SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, Dr Riyaz Untoo, was felicitated with a State Award for his “exemplary services” and efforts he rendered during more than two years while overhauling and reshaping SKIMS Medical College Bemina and its associated hospital.

The faculty members and the non-gazzetted employees have thanked Governor, Chief Secretary and Advisors to Governor for recognizing Dr. Untoo’s contributions which have enabled SKIMS Medical College to evolve as a proper medical college with improvement different spares of activities — academics, infrastructure, deficiency of staff and patient-care.

The faculty members prominent among whom who personally conveyed their thanks to government include Dr Abdul Wahid Khan, Prof Aijaz Ahmad, Dr Majid, Dr Aasif Wani, Dr Syeed Naseer, Dr Tahir, Dr Reyaz Malik, Dr Ayaz, Dr Nazir, Dr Waseem and Dr Mir Eliyas.

Pertinently, before Dr. Untoo took over as Principal SKIMS Medical College, the college and hospital was remotely controlled from SKIMS Soura. Obviously the medical college and hospital was not getting the kind of attention it deserved, which was reflected in the falling standards both in terms of teaching as well as patient-care.
