Police arrests drug peddler in Awantipora

Awantipora, January 22: Police in South Kashmir’s Awantipora district today arrested a person following an action against those involved in drug dealings in the area, said police on Tuesday.

In a statement issued here, a police spokesman said: “One person identified as Bilal Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar resident of Dogripora was arrested for drug supply offences after being intercepted by a police party at a naka in Panzgam. Officers at the checkpoint have seized 72 bottles of codeine phosphate.”

He has been taken in custody and a case under relevant sections of law stands registered.

“Drug dealings in Southern Kashmir have put our community at the risk of harm and eventual criminalization. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers are aimed to end this menace of drug addiction. It should reassure the community members and encourage them to come forward with any information pertaining to drug peddling in their neighborhood,” the spokesman said.
