Special Cover on Swami Vivekananda’s Visit to Kashmir released by Department of Posts

Srinagar: A Special Cover with Special Cancellation was released on ‘Swami Vivekananda’s Visit to Kashmir” at Sri Ramakrishna Mission Srinagar on Saturday, a press release issued here said adding that the 12th January coincided with the 156th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and National Youth Day 2019.

The press release further said that Swami Vivekananda visited Kashmir twice- the first time he reached Srinagar was on 10th September 1897. At Srinagar he was the guest of Justice Rishibar Mukhopadhyaya. On the third day after his arrival he paid an informal visit to the place of the Maharaja. The Swami left Srinagar for Baramulla and reached Murree on October 8 and from there to Rawalpindi on October 16, 1897.

The second time also Swami Vivekananda had to go to Kashmir via Rawalpindi, Murree and Baramulla in July 1898. During his stay in Srinagar he visited many places which include Amarnath, Kshir Bhavani, Achabal Garden, Dal Lake, Avantipura, Martand, Bijbehara etc. Swami left Kashmir on October 11 and came down to Lahore. Swamiji reached Belur Math on October 18, 1898.

The Special Cover with Special Cancellation was released by Swami Ritatmananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Srinagar in presence of Prof. B. N. Kaul, President, Ramakrishna Mission, Srinagar and Shri Chander M. Bhat, Assistant Director Postal Services (Philately), Jammu and Kashmir Circle in a grand function organized by Mission authorities.
