Two militants killed in Khonmoh gunfight

Pulwama, Jan 08: An unidentified militant was killed in brief shootout at Chowdribagh area of Litter in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday morning.

A police spokesperson said that in a brief exchange of fire between government forces and militants at Chowdribagh Litter this morning one militant was killed. The identity and group affiliation of the slain militant was yet to be ascertained, police said.

However, local reports identified the slain militant as Irfan Ahmad Rather, son of Azad Ahmad of Rajpora village of the district.

Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militant, a police spokesman said.

Soon after the exchange of fire a cordon and search operation was launched in the area, which was later was called off after couple of hours.

An eyewitness from Litter village informed that soon after the few gunshots were heard in the area, many youth assembled near the gunfight site and started pelting stones on government forces, who retaliated with teargas canisters.

During the clashes, a vehicle (load carrier JK13-1235) was set ablaze by the protesters.

Internet service was also suspended in the police district Pulwama.
