BANDIPORA, JANUARY 02: Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary on Wednesday reviewed the stock position of essential commodities in Gurez valley in view of snowfall in the area.

At the emergency meeting, the DDC also took stock of the snow clearance works in the district.

Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Rafiq Ahmad Lone said that 10565 quintals of rice, 2097 quintals of flour, 667 quintals of Sugar and 29590 litres of Kerosene is available in the Gurez valley. 6800 LPG cylinders have also been stocked in the Gurez valley. He said the stock is enough for distribution upto the month of March 2019.

The meeting was informed that food grains up to the month of February have been distributed in advance at Gurez and Tulail areas in view of the winter season.

Earlier the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the snow clearance works in the district. The district administration has closed the vehicular traffic on Gurez-Bandipora road while the traffic was temporarily halted for few hours on Sumbal-Bandipora road owing to slippery road conditions at various places.

The meeting was told that field staff of Mechanical Engineering Department (MED) Gurez concerned with snow clearance has been put on job since morning. One snow cutter is working at KanzalwanBagtore road, two at Dawar while one machine has been deployed in Tulail area. He said that all internal routes of the district have been cleared.

DC Bandipora while issuing avalanche advisory advised the people living in upper reaches including Gurez not to venture in avalanche prone areas.

He said the administration is ready to tackle with any kind of situation and that the men and machinery has been put on standby mode.

Dr Choudhary said the snow clearance machines have been put on alert at various spots in the district so that snow is cleared from the roads at earliest. He said all the major roads were cleared in the district and traffic was plying normally.

He said a control room has also been established in Mini-secretariat and representatives from all the department have been deployed in the control room to maintain close coordination in case of exigencies. He said focus is being laid on snow clearance on various inter-district roads and power restoration.
