Srinagar, Dec 27: Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday held a meeting of its functionaries from Srinagar at the party’s head office here in which measures needed party’s overall growth in Srinagar were discussed at threadbare.

In a statement issued here, a PDP spokesman said: “Chaired by PDP’s Srinagar’s District President Mohammad Khurshid Alam, the meeting deliberated over the present political scenario of the state’s summer capital and resolved to further strengthen the party at the grassroots.”

According to the spokesman, Alam while addressing the party functionaries termed the PDP as the only political force in the state that has remained in the forefront to pitch for the resolution of Kashmir issue through dialogue and reconciliation.

“Such a vital decision taken by a nationalist party like Congress and regional national conference is the proof in itself about PDP President’s moral fibre to protect the interests of Jammu and Kashmir.  Had there been any incongruity between profession and practice within the PDP, the party would have never received the unconditional support of other political groups of the state,” the PDP spokesman quoted Alam as saying.

“The party has always stood firm that Kashmir issue can never be resolved through muscular approach but through dialogue and reconciliation. If the Government of India doesn’t change its policy vis-à-vis Kashmir, the issue will continue to hang over its head like the sword of Damocles,” said Alam.

The PDP leader, according to the spokesman, further asked the party functionaries and workers to step up their activities and hold constant consultations with ground level workers and activists at their respective constituencies.

“Besides Alam, Ex- MLA Batamaloo Noor Mohammad Sheikh, Abdul Hameed Kosheen secretary PDP, Dr Ali Mohammad,  Aijaz Ahmad Rather, district secretary PDP, Mohammad Shafi Kundangar, zone President Khaniyar, Mohammad Ashraf Dar , Zone President Amira Kadal, Ghulam Nabi Zone President Eid Gah, Mudasir Amin, Ghulam Jeelani Kumar, Mohammad Shafi Mir Zone President Sonwar, Manzoor Ahmad Matoo Zone President Eidgah and several others took part in the meeting,” the spokesman added.
