Inter Battalion Sports Meet-2017 begins in Jammu

Jammu, December 26: Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Armed, Arun Kumar Choudhary (IPS), declared the Inter- Battalion Sports Meet-2018 open at Gulshan Ground here today.

Approximately 900 Men/Women of 28 Battalions of J&K Armed/IRP Police are participating in the five days long sports event being held at four different venues.

The opening ceremony was attended by Danesh Rana, IGP Armed/IRP Jammu Zone, Surrinder Gupta, Director SSG, Anand Jain, IGP Headquarters, Rafiq-ul-Hassan, DIG AP Jammu besides retired and senior police officers, civil officers and a large number of spectators also witnessed the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, ADGP Armed complemented the Organising Committee for holding the meet. He said that J&K Police is always on the forefront to provide the opportunities for the young talents of this state by organizing a number of sports activities at district, range, zonal and state level under Civic Action Programme.

While highlighting the aims and objectives of sports meet, ADGP said that armed police is organizing Inter Battalion Sports Meet to provide opportunity to outstanding players of different battalions to show their talent and added that outstanding performers will get an opportunity to make their place in Central Sports Team who in future will be representing the department at State and national level.  He said that players of Jammu and Kashmir police have won prestigious medals at national and international levels saying that Surya Bhano Partap Singh and Kuldeep Handoo are the recent International medal winners.

Earlier, in his welcome speech IGP Armed Jammu welcomed all the participants. He also thanked retired senior police officers for gracing the occasion. He said that in the sports meet the men players and teams will be participating in Athletic, Basketball, Boxing, Football, Handball, Weightlifting, Kabaddi , Shooting Judo, Hockey, Wushu, Tug-of-War, Volleyball, Wrestling and women teams and players will be participating  in  Archery, Athletic, Basketball, Boxing, Football, Handball, Weightlifting, Kabaddi, Shooting, Tug-of-War, Volleyball and Wrestling and added that GOs will be participating in Badminton, Table Tennis,  Lawn Tennis, Shooting.

DIG Armed Jammu in his thanks giving speech, thanked all the dignitaries for gracing the event. He also thanked media persons, spectators for their overwhelming response and said that Jammu and Kashmir police has been organizing different events throughout the year to channelize the energy of youth towards the positive direction.
