Indian National Mathematical Olympiad training camp concludes at KU

Srinagar, Dec 21: A four-day Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) training camp was organized by the Department of Mathematics, University of Kashmir in collaboration with Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, TIFR Mumbai and National Board for Higher Mathematics during December 17-20, 2018.

According to the organizers of the Olympiad the main objective of the camp was to prepare the students of secondary and senior secondary level to compete in various National and International competitions in Mathematical Sciences.

“The principal aim of the mathematical Olympiad and other math competition is to stimulate love and enthusiasm for Mathematics. It is a healthy competitive activity that facilitates the learning of mathematical concepts and the teaching of major strategies for problem solving,” said one of the organizers of the event.

More than everything else the purpose is to foster mathematical creativity and ingenuity and the thrill of meeting challenges.

The event was coordinated by the Regional Coordinator of Mathematical Olympiad Prof. B. A. Zargar, Department of Mathematics, University of Kashmir, Srinagar.

During the camp subject experts Prof. M.H.Gulzar, Prof. N.A. Rather, Prof. S. Pirzada, Dr. M.A. Khanday, Dr. M.A. Mir, Prof. Nisar Ahmad Lone enlightened the participants by their expertise.

Prof. M.A. Sofi Former Dean Academics and HOD Mathematics, University of Kashmir was the chief guest in the valedictory function of the event.
