Kumar interacts with sportspersons representing Forest Dept in games

Also visits Manda Deer Park; Briefed about wildlife species kept in Zoo area

24th All India Forest Sports Meet-2019

JAMMU, DECEMBER 19: Advisor to Governor, K Vijay Kumar interacted with the sports persons of the Forest Department and its allied wings during his visit to the office of Chief Wildlife Warden, here today.

These sportspersons are the part of the contingent representing the State Forest department in 24th All India Forests Sports Meet – 2019 from January 09-13th at Raipur in Chhattisgarh.

Commissioner Secretary Forests Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, PCCF J&K Suresh Chugh, Chairman JKSPCB Ravi Kesar, Director Soil & Water Conservation P K Singh, Director SFRI O P Sharma, CCF Eco-Tourism J Frankoi, Director Social Forestry Suresh Gupta, Special Secretary Technical Ramesh Kumar, Director Forest Protection Force Asif Mahmood, Secretary JKSPCB B M Sharma, Regional Wildlife Warden Tahir Shawl and other concerned officers were present on the occasion.

The Advisor was briefed regarding the contingent and the games in which these sportspersons are participating. It was told that the players are taking part in group as well individual games including cricket, football, badminton, table tennis, lawn tennis, swimming, billiards, snooker, shooting etc during 5 day long national level sports meet.

While interacting with the sportspersons, the Advisor enquired about the selection/training process, facilities they have been provided, their past performances and other issues need to be resolved for ensuring better performance in the future.

The sportspersons during interaction session raised the issue of monetary benefits to the sportspersons performed exceptionally well and have won medals in national and international sports events. They also requested for out of turn promotion to such player for boosting their morale.

It was told that many of the players participating in the games are working in the department on contractual basis and they need to be regularized keeping in mind their contribution in bringing laurels to the state as well as department.

The Advisor while addressing the sportspersons assured them that every possible step would be taken to felicitate such sportspersons. He asked Commissioner Secretary Forests to look into the issue and come up with a workable plan.

Further it was decided that the players who have done exceptionally well in national and international sports events should be provided all support through JK Sports Council.

The Advisor asked the department to provide sports kits including uniform and other accessories to the members of the contingent. He gives best wishes to the sports persons and expressed hope that they will do well in the games and bring more medals for the state this year.

Earlier, the Advisor visited Manda Deer Park and took round of the Zoo area to review the wildlife related activities. Regional Wildlife Warden during the visit, briefed him about the wildlife animals, other species which are kept in the Zoo in semi-wild condition.

While taking round to the animal enclosures, snake chambers and bird aviaries, the Advisor sought details of diet that is being provided to the animals, their behavior in the enclosures and medical facilities that are available in the Zoo.

He asked for providing diet to the animals as per the chart and regularly keeping eye on their health.

The Advisor also visited the Nature Interpretation Centre (NIC) established outside the Zoo area where information regarding wildlife species that are found in the state is displayed for the information of the visitors. Here, the Advisor was informed about the all kind of species including wild animals, reptiles, birds etc.

Several wildlife articles which are in possession with the department and are kept in NIC including antler of Chital, skull of monkey, eggs of Emu & Pea Hen, fetus of leopard cat & Hog deer etc. were also shown to the Advisor.
