Five forest guards injured in smugglers’ attack in Sopore

Sopore, Dec 14:  Five forest employees were injured after smugglers attacked their party in Charhaar village of Sopore town on Wednesday late evening.

A forest official told Kashmir Images that on late Wednesday the beat staff of Forest Block Botingoo 2nd was on routine patrolling and it was observed that the timber smugglers have damaged Oeo- green 40-50 feet timber in Compartment 27 of Kandi division and the smugglers were shifted the timber to some other place when they were intercepted by the beat staff, meanwhile smugglers attacked the staff with sharp objects leaving five employees including beat officer seriously injured while as the smugglers manage to flee from the spot along with the timber.

The official identified the injured employees as Farooz Mohmmad Lone (Forest guard) In-charge Beat Guard, Irhsad Ahmad Hajam, Shahzad Ahmad War, Ab Karim War and Tahir Ahmad Wani. “All injured were later shifted to Bomai Primary Health Centre (PHC) for treatment where doctors referred them to sub-district Hospital Sopore for advanced treatment,” he added.

Speaking to Kashmir Images, Forest Block Officer Botingoo 2nd Kandi Range Sopore Mehrajdin Dar said, “Yes, it is true that our five employees were attacked by smugglers in Charhar village.”

“The involved culprits have been identified, and our higher officer has demanded immediate action from police,” he added.

Meanwhile, a police official told Kashmir Images that an FIR, vide FIR No:-97/2018, has been lodged in Police Station Bomai against the accused and further investigation is on.
