Govt committed to overall welfare of needy people: Secy NFCH

BARAMULLA, DECEMBER 12: Secretary National Foundation for Communal Harmony (NFCH) Manoj Pant today said that Government is committed to provide social, economic and psychological support to the needy people. He said that the physical and psychological rehabilitation of children, who suffered during the last three decades, is the priority of the foundation.

The Secretary was speaking during an interactive session with the children and their parents who suffered immensely due to law and order disturbance from the past two decades. The participants shared their past experience wherein they extended several financial and educational demands and stressed for their immediate fulfillment.

The programme was organized by the Department of Social Welfare Baramulla under the project “ASSIST”.

The Secretary was accompanied by the DDO NFCH Ravi Shankar Tripathy and other senior functionaries of the foundation.

District Development Commissioner Dr Nasir Ahmad Naqash, ADC Farooq Ahmad Baba, Deputy CEO Balbir Singh, others participated in the programme.

Highlighting the objectives of NFCH, the Secretary said that NFCH is an autonomous organization under Societies Registration Act, 1860 with an aim to provide assistance for the rehabilitation of the child victims of communal, caste, ethnic or terrorist violence with special reference to their care, education and training, besides promoting communal harmony.

He said that the foundation is spearheading various welfare schemes, adding about 13000 children including 4000 from J&K are availing assistance under such schemes. Manoj said that the governing council of the foundation has appropriately enhanced the relief amount from time to time so that the assistance is in conformity with the present scenario.

Emphasizing upon the concerned authorities to strengthen the welfare mechanism for these assisted children, the Secretary suggested for establishing a career counselling cell in the district so that proper guidance is provided with regard to their career avenues. Meanwhile, he assured every possible support to the district administration for the rehabilitation of the victims.

Earlier, District Social Welfare Officer Syed Showket briefed the secretary about the status of various welfare schemes. He also appraised the chair about various issues and demands and sought his intervention in strengthening the overall structure of these schemes.
