Srinagar, December 09: Three Militants were killed and 5 Forces personnel’s injured in an encounter in Mujgund area on the Outskirts of Srinagar district here on Sunday in the gun fight that broke out after forces launched a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in Ghat mohalla.

The encounter that continued for nearly 18 hours during which three militants were killed though their identification is yet to be ascertained.

Incriminating material, including arms and ammunition, have been recovered from the encounter site, police confirmed adding that the house in which the militants were hiding was damaged during the Gunfight. Meanwhile, Police urged citizens not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. “People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials if any,” police said.

Massive Clashes broke out between youth and government forces near Encounter site soon after the killing of three militants as, groups of youth took to streets in the area. Local Sources said that youth threw stones towards government forces who retaliated by firing tear smoke shells, triggering clashes. Authorities have suspended mobile Internet services in the area as a “precautionary measure.”
