Executive Councillors and Councillors from different Council constituencies, SDM Drass Pawan Kotwal and representatives of SEMOK participated in the meet and put forth their suggestions and points of view regarding the importance of the setting up of separate University for the region.

The CEC, while congratulating SEMOK for having organized the 3rd consultative meet after holding series of consultations with the Academicians, intellectuals and social activists, reiterated the commitment of the Hill Council Kargil for the establishment of a University in Ladakh region and said that all out support would be provided to SEMOK and other students organizations towards this cause.

Feroz Khan said that the Hill Council is already conscious of the difficulties of the student community who are forced to go outside the district for pursing higher education. He said that establishment of a full-fledged university in Ladakh region assumes greater significance as there is no single university in the region as of now while as there are 6 universities in Jammu region and 5 in Kashmir region.

The CEC said that the Hill Council Kargil has already taken up this issue with the Governor Administration and assured to pursue the issue vociferously in future so that the establishment of a separate full-fledged University for the region is taken to its logical conclusion.

Meanwhile, all members of the LAHDC Kargil including the Executive Councillor for Health Zakir Hussain and Executive Councillor for Social Welfare unanimously stressed on the need to give preference for the setting up of the University for Ladakh at Kargil keeping into consideration its central location and equidistant position from Srinagar, Leh and Zanskar. They also pointed out in one voice that the University campuses already established in the twin districts should be upgraded to the status of full-fledged universities as a second option keeping in view the sentiments of the people in both districts.

Earlier the members of SEMOK including its President Zakir Hussain, Joint Secretary Javed Balkhani and members Muhammad Hassan Handurmani, Nissar Ali Khan and Marzia Banoo apprised the CEC, ECs and the Councilors about the series of activities underway for projecting the demand for separate University for Ladakh at appropriate platforms.

They also highlighted the several student welfare and other related activities conducted by the organization in the district.
