SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 06: The Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) Thursday organized a day-long seminar-cum-cultural programme for the persons with special needs at Media Complex Srinagar here.

The programme called as Know Me for My Ability was aimed at remembering those living with different kinds of disabilities and acknowledging their struggles and contributions.

It included two sessions including a seminar and a cultural programme during which speakers and artists emphasized the personal and larger contributions of the disabled and the importance of providing them with equal opportunities.

The participants in the programme included differently abled people from different districts of Kashmir and artists from the Cultural Unit of DIPR. The latter performed stunning cultural acts calling for greater opportunities to and recognition of the former.

The seminar session also included speeches by several disabled participants who called attention to their struggles and commitment to meaningful life and the need for provision of equal opportunities to them.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, who was the chief guest on the occasion, broke down listening to stories of struggle and success narrated on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, he urged everyone to encourage and respect the struggles of those with disabilities and promised full support and promotion to them from the district administration.

The programme was organised in collaboration with the HOPE Disability Centre.
