JAMMU, NOVEMBER 30: Advisor to Governor, K Vijay Kumar has said that the state has got best medical professionals working in the Government Medical College (GMC) and its associated hospitals and every effort is being made to develop these important health institutions with required infrastructure including updated equipment and machinery for providing best healthcare services to the people.

Health sector is a priority area for the government and focus is being accorded to upgrade the healthcare facilities in such government institutions keeping in mind the inventions that took place in the medical world to provide best possible treatment to the patients.

The Advisor said this while addressing the Hospital Authorities and the senior doctors working in these health institutions during a review meeting convened today to discuss the issues pertaining to the development of hospitals and action plan for putting in best healthcare services.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Health & Medical Education Atal Dulloo, Principal GMC Jammu Dr Sunanda Raina, MD JKPCC M Raju, MD JKMSCL Shiv Kumar Gupta, Chief Engineer PWD Jammu Sudhir Shah, Administrator, Associated Hospitals Jammu Smita Sethi, All HoDs, Medical Superintendents and other concerned officers.

At the beginning of meeting, brief overview of GMC Jammu was given by its Principal along with the details of academic activities including intake of students for MBBS & PG Courses, details of available human resource, status of ongoing works related to the development of GMC & Hospital and efforts made to develop infra as per the guidelines of Medical Council of India (MCI).

In order to discuss the various important developmental works that have been undertaken or proposed to be taken at GMC Jammu and its Associated Hospitals and to address the issues for timely completion of these works were discussed in detail.

Details of the works along with their status and funding position were thoroughly discussed and necessary instructions were passed on to the executing agencies including JKPCC and PWD for ensuring their completion in given timeframe.

The works include construction of Bone & Joint Hospital in Jammu, construction of additional 100 bedded emergency block at GMC Jammu, additional 250 bedded Gynecology ward at SMGS Hospital, construction of State Cancer Institute at GMC Jammu, creation of infra for medical students, up-gradation of critical care facilities, up-gradation of services, procurement of important equipment and machinery and other works related to the overall development of these government health institutions.

The meeting also had brief discussion on issues related to human resource at GMC and Associated Hospitals and steps need to be taken to fill up the posts of faculty, para-medical staff and technicians. It was decided that under SRO 384, posts that are to be filled up should be advertised at the earliest.

During the meeting, the HoDs raised several important issues pertaining to the development of their department keeping in mind the increase in visiting patients and to cater the health needs of the people. The Advisor listened to the issues/problems that have been raised and had meaningful discussion in order to redress them.

Several workable suggestions/inputs were also given by the doctors to provide better and improved healthcare to the people.

Vijay Kumar also sought details of major machinery & equipments which are in use and asked the authorities for updating them as per the present technology. He also asked for making all the life-saving equipments functional 24×7.

“All the important critical care equipments and machinery should be upgraded matching with the latest technology for providing improved healthcare facilities to the people of the state”, he said.

With regard to the issues related to the Medical Supplies Corporation mainly the procurement of equipments and machinery, the Advisor directed to complete the procurement process at the earliest so that same can be utilized for the purpose.

For ensuring regular power supply to the OTs and Critical Care Units, it was asked to arrange backup for the purpose by way of installing UPS supply. Focus was also laid on ensuring adequate and strengthening security and sanitation arrangements at all these health institutions.

While interacting with the HoDs, the Advisor said that the issues related to the patient care which needs immediate redressal should be immediately brought into the notice of the authorities for timely action. Patients visiting the government hospitals expect best treatment and every facility for which we all have to contribute in a positive manner, he said.

The Advisor appreciated the efforts of doctors and other staff for rendering their services to the people all the days. He assured that all the important issues would be taken care of but simultaneously patient care won’t be compromised.

Earlier, the Advisor inaugurated additional Library block that accommodates 110 students and the additional Administrative Block having office chambers and waiting hall. The Advisor also interacted with the students studying at the Central Library of GMC Jammu and enquired about the academics and facilities provided at the library.
