Govt hospitals provide 95% healthcare facilities in Kashmir: Principal GMC

SRINAGAR, NOVEMBER 30: Advisor to Governor, K Vijay Kumar on Thursday chaired a meeting to review the functioning of Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar and its associated hospitals and also took suggestions from HoDs for the betterment of healthcare facility in the Valley.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Atal Dulloo, Principal GMC Srinagar, Dr Samia Rashid, Registrar Academics, GMC Srinagar, administrators of associated hospitals Srinagar, Medical Superintendents of associated hospitals, officials from JKMSCL, JKPCC, R&B and other concerned officers.

During the meeting Dr Samia gave a detailed power point presentation about the functioning of the GMC and its associated hospitals.  She informed the Advisor that 95% of the health care facilities in the Valley are provided by the government run hospitals and it needs to be given the special attention. She also informed the Advisor about the paucity of manpower including doctors and trained paramedics. The need for the creation of posts and the up gradation of various posts also came in the discussion.

Advisor Kumar also listened to the issues for various HoDs and asked for their suggestions to overcome such issues in order to provide better health care to the people of Kashmir. On the occasion, the HoDs were directed to prepare the list of doables that can be executed in the next six months.

While directing JKPCC and R&B to complete all the ongoing construction works in a stipulated timeframe, Advisor Kumar assured that he will personally look into the issues that lead to the delay in execution of various projects.

With regards to the medical equipments damaged in 2014 floods, Advisor Kumar directed to call experts from AIIMS who can help and advice in the tendering out of these machines.

Advisor Kumar appreciated the work of the doctors in Kashmir who worked tirelessly during the turbulent times and said that they are doing the wonderful human work through their profession.
