Out of 134, 62 votes cast in lone Sonpah Panch ward in Beerwah

Budgam, Nov 27: Sixty two votes were cast in the lone Panch ward of Sonpah which went for polls on Tuesday in the fourth phase of Panchayat elections in Budgam.

“Out of 134 electors, 62 persons exercised their franchise and the turnout in Sonpah stood at 46.26 percent,” officials said.

Sonpah Panch seat, which falls in Beerwah block, had a total of 134 electors and two candidates — Javid Ahmad Malik and Mohammad Yousuf Malik were contesting.

The polling station was setup at Government Primary School Arabal Sonpah.

Besides Beerwah, elections for Waterhail were also scheduled on Tuesday, but due to lack of contestants, most seats remained vacant and other seats were won by candidates unopposed.

The twin blocks of Beerwah and Waterhail has a total of 350 seats, among these there was no contest for 349 seats.

Earlier, Budgam, Rathsun, Soibugh of the district also witnessed no polling in the ongoing nine-phased rural elections.
