A police official said that suspected militants abducted former Special Police Officer (SPO) Basharat Ahmad Wagay, Riyaz Ahmad and Zahid from Reben village at around 4:30 pm.

During last week as many as nine persons were abducted from the district.

Of them seven were later set free while two — Huzaif Ashraf of Manzgam and Nadeem Manzoor of Safanagri — were killed.

One of the released abductees was also shot and injured by his captors.

Meanwhile, suspected militants set free two of the three persons kidnapped Friday evening from a village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

A police official said that Riyaz Ahmad Wagay, son of Ab Hameed and Zahid Ahmad son of Ali Mohammad were set free at around 8 pm.

Wagay and Ahmad were among the three persons abducted by suspected militants earlier in the day from their native village of Reban.

However, Basharat Ahmad, a former SPO was not that lucky as his bullet riddled body with an amputated arm was recovered by police late in the evening.
