Down Town Hockey Championship: Srinagar Hockey Club crowned winners

Srinagar, November 21: The final match of Down Town Hockey Championship-2018 was held here today at the Waris Shah Khan ground, Srinagar and ‘Srinagar Hockey Club’ was crowned winner of the Championship.

Srinagar Hockey Club came from goal down to defeat Badal Club 2-1 in a well fought encounter and it’s pertinent to mention over here that (12) twelve teams from valley participated in said championship.

The Joint Secretary Hockey J&K, Raja Ghulam Nabi Wani, was Chief Guest who presided over the Championship and also distributed prizes among winning team members. He encouraged the players to be more and more efficient in sports.

The spectators were a bit disappointed after seeing the rough condition of the playground. The dignitaries and general public present on the occasion demanded the state government to provide Astro Turf to improve the Hockey game in the state to make the future of Hockey bright.

The dignitaries present at the occasion included Former Hockey Player Yaqoob, Technical Director S. Gurdeep Singh, Sheikh Mohd Amin, Rafiq Baba, Organising Secretary S. Avtar Singh, SHO Rainawari and others.
