Poonch, Nov 12: One more army soldier was killed and another critically injured in yet another sniper attack from across the border along the Line of Control (LoC) on Monday.

A senior police officer told GNS that Pakistan army in “violation of ceasefire” attacked the army’s 4 MLI Regiment at Sakri Post near Sonawali Gali along the border in sub-division Mendhar in Poonch district.

In the incident, two soldiers suffered critical bullet wounds and were taken to nearby army hospital where Lansnaik Antony Sebastian succumbed to wounds.

The other injured identified as Havaldar Mary Muthu was airlifted to army’s command hospital in Udhampur. “Both the soldiers belong to 70 Field Regiment and were attached with 4 MLI,” the officer said.

An army officer also confirmed the death of the soldier and injuries to the other.

The attack came amid intelligence inputs about possibility of more sniper and other attacks on forces deployed along LoC.

Meanwhile, the cross-border shelling raged in the area soon after the army retaliated the attack by Pakistan, the officials said.

A number of sniper attacks took place along LoC in last week or so with. In Rajouri district, neighbouring Poonch, one soldier was killed only yesterday. (GNS)
