In a statement issued here, a LMD spokesman said that in addition to this one consumer complaint was also settled.

“A consumer had purchased a jacket for Rs 2500/- and after wearing it for a couple of days, it started bubbling and losing its lustre. The shopkeeper had denied to take back the defective product and the consumer lodged a complaint against the trader in the Department of Legal Metrology through e-mail. The surprise inspection was conducted and it was found that the trader is offering for sale the jackets without the proper price tag. The trader was penalized at Rupees 5000/- for offering for sale Jackets in the pre-packaged form without carrying a price tag. It is the right of the consumer to know about the price and manufacturing details of the product with the contact number of the manufacturer,” the spokesman said.

“The erring trader confessed the lapse and returned the money to the customer as a suitable replacement was not available at the shop,” he added.
