Taylor objects to Hafeez’s bowling action, umpire rules out

ABU DHABI: An interesting situation developed during the first one day international (ODI) between Pakistan and New Zealand on Wednesday, when Kiwi batsman Ross Taylor objected to Pakistani spinner Mohammad Hafeez’s bowling action.

The first ODI of a three-match series was underway in Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.

Taylor objected to the bowling action in the 26th over of New Zealand innings. The Kiwi batsman told the umpire that the Pakistani spinner was bowling ‘doosra’ — a leg break bowled with an apparent off-break action — which he was not allowed to bowl.

The umpires, while rejecting Taylor’s objection, told him to keep batting as they were observing things.

Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed also had a word with the umpires pertaining to the matter and then directed Hafeez to continue bowling.

It is pertinent to mention here that Hafeez’s bowling action has been objected to several times in the past.

The International Cricket Council had also suspended the all-rounder from bowling for a year.
