Srinagar, Nov 2: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a militant of Al-Badr Mujahideen outfit in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police North Kashmir, Atul Kumar Goel told GNS that a joint naka was established at Chutipora area of Handwara today in the morning following the “credible inputs” about the movement of the militants.

During the naka, a vehicle was searched and one suspected was apprehended, DIG said, adding that during frisking one Chinese pistol and two hand grenades were recovered from his possession.

An investigation into the instant case has been immediately launched and the arrested person has been identified as Sajad Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Hamid Dar, a resident of Bungam, Rahmoo village in southern Pulwama district.

“Sajad had joined Al-Badr militant outfit on October 3 last month,” DIG said.

A case has been registered and further investigations initiated in this matter, DIG added.

Pertinently, Sajad, a first-year student of Bachelors in Lab Technician at college in New Delhi, had gone missing since October 3 and later his family lodged a missing report in the concerned police station. (GNS)
