DDC declares open block level ‘Khelo India’ sports tournament

KATHUA, OCTOBER 31:- District Development Commissioner, Rohit Khajuria today declared open block level sports tournament here at Sports Stadium.

The sports is being organised under integrated youth engagement programme – “Sports for Peace and Development” under Khelo India initiative.

The sporting events being organised across the district will witness competitions in football, volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho, cricket, athletics and rural sport wrestling in which unprecedented 7218 sports enthusiast in the age groups of under 17, under 19 and above have registered.

Inaugural event was attended by ADC, Kathua, Ghansham Singh, ACR, Jatinder Mishara, CEO, Bishan Singh, DYSSO, Sunil Kumar, ZPEOs and officers of various other departments.

After unfurling the khelo India flag, the DDC interacted with the participants and urged the youth to actively participate in the sports activities for their all-round development. A pledge invoking sportsman spirit was also administered to the participants.

Listing the sports events being organised under Khelo India, the DDC said that these days youth are seen playing on the playfields across the district which reflects that the launch of integrated youth engagement programme under “Sports for Peace and Development” has achieved desired results.  He said district administration is providing opportunities to youngsters of different age groups to play games in a congenial atmosphere.

“The initiative aims to teach the potential youth the fundamentals and the basics of their favorite sport and provide them a place to start with” he added and further stated that after the completion of the Block level games, the winning teams from each block would participate in district level competitions followed by a grand closing ceremony. Similar sporting events will also get organized at blocks- Barnoti, Hiranagar, Billawar, Bani, Duggan, Basholi and Malhar as per the mentioned schedule.
