JAMMU, OCTOBER 26: Rich tributes were paid to Brigadier Rajinder Singh on his 71th Martyr Day today here at a tribute paying function organized by J&K Ex-Services League.

Army veterans, senior government functionaries, civil society members and political leaders garlanded the statue of legendary soldier here at Brig Rajinder Singh Chowk.

The speakers including Divisional Commissioner, Sanjeev Verma, IGP Jammu, Dr. S D Singh Jamwal, Former Minister, Gulchain Singh Charak, Maj Gen. (Retd) Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, Padam S P Verma, highlighted the timeline of heroic accomplishments of the Brigadier and his supreme sacrifice while protecting the state from the enemy invasion in 1947.

Paying tributes to Brig Rajinder Singh and his team of brave soldiers, the Div Com   said they fought back Pakistani raiders with limited resources and stopped them at Uri for several days thus saving the lives of thousands of the people.

Calling upon youth to imbibe discipline and positive approach, the Div Com asked them to stay away from social evils and contribute in shaping a bright future of the nation.

Cultural programmes based on patriotic themes were also presented by the school children, artists of Department of Information and Public Relations and J&K Academy of Art Cultural and Languages.

Meanwhile, the Div Com also gave away token of appreciation to students who performed cultural items during the function.

Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, President J&K Ex-Services League thanked the Army, Veterans and the Members of the Civil Society who joined in paying homage to Brig Rajinder Singh.
