Dussehra, Mahanavami celebrated with religious fervour across Jammu

JAMMU, OCTOBER 18: Advisor to Governor, B.B Vyas today greeted the people on the occasion of Dussehra and Mahanavami and highlighted the significance of the day as the triumph of good over evil.  He said that corruption is greatest enemy of people in present times and we have to join hands to fight it out.

The Advisor was addressing a huge gathering during Dussehra celebrations at Parade Ground where he was present as a chief guest.

Celebrating Dussehra with religious fervour and gaiety to mark the victory of good over evil, a series of events were held at different places in Jammu region where the effigies of demon King Ravan, his brother Kumbkaran and son Megnath were consigned to flames.

In Jammu, a grand Shobha Yatra was taken out by Sanatan Dharam Sabha before Dussehra celebrations at Parade.

Elaborating on significance of Dussehra, the Advisor said that this festival commemorates victory of good over evil thus inspiring us to create a better society to live in. He further added that such festivals remind us that those who follow the path of virtue and goodness always emerge victorious.

Besides, MLA Jammu  East Rajesh Gupta, MLC Ramesh Arora, Principal Secretary, Rohit Kansal, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma, IGP Jammu, S D Jamwal, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar  were among the prominent persons present on  the occasion.

Earlier, a Jhanki after passing through various markets reached the Parade ground in the evening where the pooja archana was performed by the chief guest, other guests and a large number of devotees before consigning the effigies of Ravan, Kumbkaran and Meghnath to flames.

The authorities had made elaborate security arrangements for the functions and a big contingent of police was deployed at venue and on the roads outside to maintain total vigil.

Ganai greets people on Mahanavami, Dussehra

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 18 – Advisor to the Governor, Khurshid Ahmed Ganai, has extended greetings to the people on the auspicious occasions of Mahnavami and Dussehra and expressed hope that these great festivals will usher in an era of peace, harmony and prosperity in the state.

In his message of felicitations, Ganai said that celebrating holy festivals is an important part of our rich cultural heritage which strengthens the bonds of amity and brotherhood.

The Advisor also prayed for wellbeing of the people of the state.
