As per case details, on March 09, 2018, an unidentified and semi-damaged body of a man was recovered from railway track at Vijaypur in Jammu district after which police released the photograph and description of the body for identification.

“After the pictures were released a family hailing from Qasab village of Ari in Mendhar approached Railway Police on 13th March, 2018, and claimed that the unidentified body recovered from Vijaypur is of their missing son. After legal formalities the body was handed over to the family for the last rites,” the case details reveal.

The family offered Namaz-e-Janaza (funeral prayers) and laid the deceased to rest at Qasab village in Mendhar.

However, recently Muzamil called his mother and informed her that he is returning home. Two days later Muzamil returned to Mendhar and approached police and informed that he has been presumed dead and an unidentified man has been buried inadvertently.

Meanwhile, a team of Railway Police reached Mendhar on Thursday and conducted investigation into this matter and also recorded statements of a many persons.

“It is clear now that it was the case of mistaken identity. We have to ascertain who then dead man is,” said an official.
