Inhabitants of Wadoora Sopore stage protest against drinking water shortage

Sopore: The inhabitants of Wadoora area in the outskirts of Sopore town on Friday staged strong protest demonstration against Public Health Engineering Department alleging acute scarcity of drinking water due to which they forced to drink contaminated water from river Jehlum.

Protestors blocked Kupwara-Sopore National Highway at Wadoora and shouted slogans against PHE department for failed to provide them regular water supply since past one week.

“We are facing water shortage from last week and nobody bothers to look into the crises. We women are forced to take to streets  as there is no water to drink, cook and wash,” said Naseema Begum.

The residents of Wadoora Sopore alleged the Public Health Engineering Department has failed to restore a water supply in the area since past one week despite repeated pleas . However, the concern authorities are clueless.

“It is  shame on PHE department for giving tough times to the residents particularly women folk,”shouted a protesting woman,  they however warned that if their demands are not met, they will resort to sit in at main Chowk Sopore.

Executive Engineer PHE division Sopore said that there is shortage of water due to hit summer and people are using portable water in kitchen gardens instead of drinking.

Meanwhile concern officials in PHE division Sopore that  due to dry spell parts of Sopore faced tough time, but our team is working hard round the clock to provide water supply to those affected areas, officer said that department also started water Tanker supply to those affected areas.
