Jammu, Oct 01: In an anti-encroachment drive, the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) razed at least 80 illegally built structures including residential houses and retrieved over 35 acres of land adjacent to a famous golf course here, officials said.

The drive in a locality in the vicinity of sprawling Jammu Tawi golf course at Sidhrah started at 0500 hours in the morning and ended in the afternoon, Vice-Chairman, JDA, P S Rathore was quoted as saying by PTI.

He said a large posse of police and CRPF personnel were deployed in the area to maintain law and order.

“The anti-encroachment drive was carried out successfully as over 35 acres of land was retrieved from the encroachers, while more than 80 structures including over three dozen residential houses were demolished with little resistance,” he said.

He said the district civil and police administration assisted the JDA in the drive.

Rathore said some of the illegally built residential houses belonged to police personnel and the department is preparing a list of such men and forwarding it to the State government for appropriate action.
